Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Integers.

ADDING
Process: Adding Integers is really easy as soon as you learn it. The first step is to start at 0 or put or finger on 0. So lets say your Problem is -7+4=x. So you must slide to the left and stop once you get at -7.

So once your at -7 you must move to the right 4 times.

Once you did that you should be at -3.

That meaning your answer to the problem would be -3
so..... -7+4=-3

SUBTRACTION

Process: Subtracting can be really easy if you use the 2-pencil mark trick. Lets say your problem is -8 - -4=y. If you are just learning this now it might look confusing. When you use the 2-pencil mark trick you change the problem to addition. So you would change -8 + -4, then change it to -8 + +4(which means positive 4) because you change it to it's opposite.

Now you must start at 0 or put your finger on 0 again.

Next you must move to the left and stop once you get at -8.

Next you must move to the right 4 times.

If you did this right you would be on -4.
Your final answer is -8 - -4 = -4

Multiplying and Dividing

Process:
The steps for multiplying and dividing integers are just like the rules for adding and dividing. The only difference is instead of adding your multiplying. And instead of subtracting your dividing. Let's say your problem is-7 x -2

So you go to 0 or put your finger on 0.

now move to the left and stop at -7.

Next you want to think whats 7x2
The answer to that is 14. Now all you have to do is add a negative.
So the final answer is -7 x -2 = 14

Where are you going to use this in life???
Let's say your a meteorologist
Your you have to find the average of the temperature. You would use Int0egers

Solving Equations

n-36=17

the first step is to find out the opposite operation.
in this case it would be addition.

next you would find the sum of n-36=17

so you need to add to 36 to both sides.

so 36+36 crosses out. then 36 + 17 +53.

so then 53-36=17
n=53

GCF(Greatest Common Factor) and Factors

The GCF Is the greatest factor shared by the numbers in your data set.

EXAMPLE
So lets say the numbers you have are 15 and 30.
The factors of 15 and 30 are......
15:1,3,5,15
30: 1,2,3,10,15,30
so the GCF would be 15 because that's the greatest number that goes into 15 and 30.

above are some links that will help you with GCF
FACTORS

A factor is a number that can be multiplied equally into another number.

A

EXPONENTS

An exponent stands for however many times you are multiplying the number. The number that is being multiplied is called the base. You take the number and multiply it by itself however many times the number is being raised too.

For example (5)(5) = 5^2

You would you use exponents in your life in collage in high school. You have to use them with calculus and pre calculus
